Challenge
The City of Los Angeles has selected Evoqua through its sales partner MiscoWATER, to manufacture and install a wastewater treatment system at the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant. The new treatment system will be installed as part of a pilot facility to evaluate three membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems. It will operate for a minimum of one year to determine the best solution for recycling 100% of the treated water at the plant.
Solution
Evoqua worked closely with Stantec and Carollo Engineers on the treatment plant design, which will include a DAVCO™ steel rectangular field-erected biological wastewater treatment system responsible for treating 1.0 million gallons per day (MGD). The system will consist of pre-anoxic, aerobic, and post anoxic zones for treating the wastewater influent before discharge to the MBR pilot systems for testing. The DAVCO field-erected treatment system was selected as an ideal cost-effective solution within a small footprint providing a shorter concept-to-completion timeline. Evoqua’s field construction and service teams will install all civil and mechanical aspects of the MBR pilot facility and fully integrate all components, providing a turnkey treatment installation.
Results
The Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant is the largest of the City’s four water reclamation plants operated by the Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment and receives an average flow of 260 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater. Commissioning of the MBR pilot plant is scheduled for early 2022 and will be an important step toward the City of Los Angeles’ goal of producing up to 217 MGD of recycled water by 2035.
Evoqua’s DAVCO field-erected treatment system offers optimum application flexibility relative to physical size, flow rates, treatment levels, and site requirements. Treatment capacities range from 0.1 to 5.0 MGD and are available in a variety of configurations, including activated sludge processes, sequencing batch reactors, and oxidation ditch configurations. Treatment plant material options include carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, concrete, or any combination of these materials. Overall capital, maintenance, and operating costs can be reduced with complete turnkey, retrofit, or upgrade solutions available.
